A tragic incident unfolded in Sulphur, Louisiana, where a mother has been accused of fatally shooting her one-year-old daughter. Kristin Bass, 28, was arrested on Friday (January 2) and charged with first-degree murder. The incident occurred on New Year’s Day at Bass’s home on Quelqueshue Street, where officers from the Sulphur Police Department responded to a call after 8 p.m.
According to KPLC, the victim’s father, Bradley Moss, reported hearing a loud noise and discovered Bass allegedly holding a gun. Their one-year-old daughter, Acelynn Moss, had been shot. Moss recounted the harrowing moment, saying, “I almost lost two babies. I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God.” He also mentioned that their older daughter, who is two years old, was present during the incident and has since been taken into custody by the Department of Children and Family Services.
Bass is currently held at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office jail with her bond set at $10 million. The community of Sulphur, located about 135 miles west of Baton Rouge, is grappling with the shock of this tragic event.
