A 48-year-old woman from Irvine has been charged with homicide following the death of her 11-year-old son, who was found with multiple stab wounds in a Santa Ana hotel room on Wednesday. The incident occurred at the La Quinta Inn on Hotel Terrace, where the mother and son had been staying for several weeks.
Santa Ana police responded to a 911 call made by the mother at approximately 9:30 a.m. In the call, she reportedly admitted to killing her son and ingesting an unknown substance. Officers arrived to find the boy deceased and recovered a knife believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
The mother was taken into custody without incident in the hotel hallway but was transported to a local hospital due to her condition. She remains in stable condition and under police custody. According to Santa Ana Police Department Officer Natalie Garcia, the incident is considered isolated, with no other suspects involved.
The names of the victim and the suspect have not been released, and the motive behind the act remains unclear. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Santa Ana Police Department or Orange County Crime Stoppers.
