Mother Arrested For Murder In Death Of Infant Intentionally Left In Hot Car

Vanessa Esquivel, a 27-year-old mother from Dallas, Texas, has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly leaving her 15-month-old child in a hot car for over two hours. The incident occurred on Saturday (August 16) in Frisco, where Esquivel reportedly left her child in a vehicle without working air conditioning while she was at work. The outside temperature was at least 95 degrees, according to police.

The Frisco Police Department stated that they were alerted to the situation by the Plano Police Department, who were investigating the child’s death at Medical City Plano. Officers learned that Esquivel had arrived at her workplace on the 3200 block of Preston Road around 2 p.m. and left the child unattended in the car. The child, whose identity has not been publicly released, died as a result of the extreme heat.

Detectives determined that Esquivel’s actions met the statutory requirements for murder, as she intentionally left the child in conditions that endangered their life. A warrant for Esquivel’s arrest was issued, and she was apprehended by Dallas Police on August 20. She is currently held in the Collin County Jail with a bond set at $250,000. If convicted, Esquivel faces a sentence ranging from five years to life in prison, along with a potential fine of up to $10,000.

The Frisco Police Department is urging anyone with information about the case to contact their non-emergency number or submit a tip via Tip411.
