Mosquito-Spraying Helicopter Hit By Golf Ball

Authorities in Minnesota have launched an investigation after a mosquito control helicopter was struck by a golf ball. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot was flying over Refuge Golf Course in Oak Grove when he saw the ball heading for the helicopter.

When the pilot landed, he noticed the golf ball struck the helicopter and caused damage, so he contacted law enforcement. Deputies went to the golf course to identify the person responsible. However, they were unsuccessful as nobody at the course knew who hit the ball.

Investigators are not sure if the shot was accidental or intentional.

Officials warned about the dangers the pilots face while flying so low to the ground while spraying for mosquitos.

“Safety is a top priority for us, and we are just really pleased that the helicopter was able to land safely,” Metropolitan Mosquito Control District Board Chairman Fran Miron said. “That treatment application is a very dangerous business because they fly so low, and they’re flying amongst trees.”
