MLB Pulls Angels, Rangers Hats Over Vulgar Design Errors

The MLB has removed certain New Era caps from fan shops due to accidental vulgarities in their designs. The Overlap 5950 collection, which features team logos superimposed over team names, led to unintended offensive words on some caps. The Texas Rangers hat, for instance, displayed a Spanish vulgarity for breasts by overlaying the “T” logo on the “X” in “Texas.” This design was quickly pulled from MLB and Rangers stores after fans noticed the issue over the weekend.

Similarly, the Los Angeles Angels hat was removed from online stores after its design inadvertently created a word with obscene connotations by placing the “A” logo over the “G” in “Angels.” According to the Los Angeles Times, these hats are now only available on resale platforms like eBay, often at inflated prices.

The Houston Astros cap also faced criticism for a design that resulted in a term sounding like a vulgarity. While the Astros cap remains available, it has attracted significant attention and ridicule. Other caps in the collection, such as those for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners, feature less offensive but still confusing designs.

The Washington Post reports that New Era and MLB have not commented on these design mishaps. This incident follows previous errors, such as last year’s Oakland Athletics cap that appeared to spell “A’ss.”
