Missing Mother Found Alive A Week After ‘Suspicious’ House Fire

Britney Gard, a 46-year-old mother from Indiana, was found alive on Wednesday (October 8) after being missing for over a week following a suspicious fire at her home. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported that Gard was discovered in a wooded area about two and a half miles from her residence in Bainbridge, Indiana. She had been missing since September 30.

Gard was located after she called authorities for help finding her way out of Hall Woods Nature Preserve. Officials quickly found her and transported her to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. Her current condition remains unknown, and it is unclear how she ended up in the woods.

The incident began when firefighters responded to a blaze at Gard’s home on October 1. The fire was deemed “suspicious in nature” by investigators, but no one was found inside the residence. Gard’s absence was noted when she failed to attend her daughter’s volleyball game on the same day. Her family became concerned when they realized her car and purse were still at home, and she had not planned to leave.

Family members and authorities, including the FBI and Indiana State Police, conducted extensive searches in the surrounding area, using drones and other resources to locate Gard. Her family expressed relief at her safe return, though many questions remain about the circumstances of her disappearance and the fire.

The investigation into the fire and Gard’s disappearance is ongoing, with authorities aiming to verify all details and bring closure to the case. There is no current threat to the public, and officials are not seeking any persons of interest.
