Middle Schooler Filmed Himself Bullying Boy, 5, As He Cried For Help

A middle school student in Loudoun County, Virginia, recorded himself bullying a five-year-old boy, using ethnic slurs and taunts. The incident, which occurred on April 5, was captured on video and posted to a chat group by students from Eagle Ridge Middle School. The video begins with a slur directed at the frightened child, who is seen pleading for help and running along his porch as laughter is heard in the background. The harassment continued until the boy’s mother opened the door, allowing her son to escape inside.

The boy’s parents, who moved to the United States from China, expressed their distress over the incident. The father, struggling to explain the slur to his son, shared his disappointment in the community they had chosen for its reputable schools. The mother, heartbroken by the cruelty displayed, emphasized the importance of raising awareness to prevent such behavior.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the incident but cannot comment due to the involvement of juveniles. Although the harassment did not occur on school grounds, Eagle Ridge Middle School has offered counseling and restorative practices for the students involved.

Bullying, including social exclusion and verbal harassment, remains a significant issue in schools. Experts emphasize the role of adults in preventing and addressing such behavior. For those affected by bullying, resources are available to provide support and guidance, as noted by StopBullying.gov.
