A former Louisiana mayor was reportedly yelled at by her son after she allegedly had sex with his 16-year-old best friend at a boozy pool party, the Lake Charles American Press reports.
Jill Weaver, the best friend and former sister-in-law of former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts, told jurors that she overheard the exchange between Roberts and her son on July 20, 2024, while testifying in Beauregard Parish County Court.
“He was saying [Roberts] effed his best friend,” Weaver said.
Weaver said that Roberts was the most drunk she’d ever seen her and had left the party at around 11:00 p.m. local time before being asked to return by her own son at 2:00 a.m., at which point Roberts accused him of taking a video of her allegedly sexually assaulting a teenager.
“Oh great, you called your mom,” Roberts said, according to Weaver, who was recounting the conversation.
The teenagers then showed the two adults their phones to prove they didn’t have videos of the incident, with Weaver later texting her son “lie till you die” and admitting she spoke to Roberts about how to keep the teens from reporting the incident to authorities. The jury was also shown an interview in which Roberts’ son told investigators that he saw his mom having sex with his friend through a crack in the window, as well as her daughter testifying that she saw Roberts and the 16-year-old “on top of each other.”
Roberts, who faces two charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile, resigned as DeRidder’s mayor days before her arrest in 2024.
