A former high school math teacher agreed to plead guilty to multiple charges for having sex with a 16-year-old student. Hailey Clifton-Carmack, 26, was facing charges of statutory rape, child molestation, and child endangerment but reached a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to one charge of Sexual Contact with a Student.
She faces up to four years in prison and must remain under house arrest until her sentencing on October 11.
Carmack was arrested in January after police received photos of the 16-year-old student with scratches on his back that were taken after a sexual encounter with Carmack. The teen shared the photos with other classmates, who then contacted authorities.
Investigators said that Carmack and the teen had sex in school and used other students as lookouts to make sure they weren’t caught.
The boy’s father, Mark Creighton, was also charged because he allegedly knew about the relationship between his son and Carmack but did nothing to stop it.
“They are going to do it behind my back, so I may as well let it happen,” he reportedly said when confronted about the relationship.
Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin S. Hillman told PEOPLE that his case is currently on hold while Carmack’s case is resolved because she “agreed to assist the State and testify if needed.”
