A manhunt is underway for 32-year-old Joseph A. Couch in connection to a mass shooting on a highway in Kentucky. Laurel County Sheriff’s Office Public Affairs Deputy Gilbert Acciardo told CNN that at least five people were shot on Interstate 75 near Exit 49 around 6 p.m. on Saturday (September 7).
Two people were also injured in a car accident caused by the shooting, London Mayor Randall Weddle said.
Authorities closed the highway in both directions from Exit 41 to Exit 59 as they investigated the shooting. The highway has since been reopened as authorities have moved their search to the nearby woods.
“That is some rugged terrain and a lot of treeline,” Weddle said.
The London Police Department has asked the public to call 911 with any information about Couch, who is a 5’10” white male who weighs about 150 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous, and the police warned that nobody should approach him.
