Man Suspected of DUI Arrested in Mission Viejo After Chase from Lynwood

MISSION VIEJO (CNS) – A man suspected of DUI was taken into custody in Mission Viejo Tuesday evening after leading authorities on a pursuit that began in Lynwood.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies began pursuing the man driving a dark-colored Chevrolet Malibu just after 6:15 p.m. in Lynwood, but quickly backed away from the chase as the man drove recklessly on surface streets.

The man made his way on freeways through Compton, Long Beach, Seal Beach, Lake Forest and Costa Mesa, at one point throwing a shoe out of the driver’s side window.

The sheriff’s department handed the pursuit over to the California Highway Patrol, who pursued the man as he exited the southbound San Diego (5) Freeway onto surface streets in Mission Viejo.

A CHP officer performed a PIT maneuver on the man’s car in the area of Crown Valley Parkway and Cabot Road, causing it to spin out. The man got out of the car and removed his shirt before with complying with officers’ orders to surrender.

The man was taken into custody just before 7:30 p.m. No further details were immediately released.
