In Washington, D.C.’s Trinidad neighborhood, a suspect in an “altered mental state” from an unknown substance stabbed six people, including himself, on Thursday (April 3). The incident occurred around 3:22 p.m., and police quickly responded to the scene, finding multiple victims with stab wounds. According to ABC News, all victims are in stable condition, with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith reported that the suspect began by stabbing himself before attacking a female acquaintance and others on the street. Among the injured were two good Samaritans who tried to intervene. Chief Smith praised their bravery but advised against intervening in such dangerous situations, as they too were injured in the assault.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was apprehended at the scene and taken to the hospital for surgery. A knife believed to be used in the attack was recovered nearby. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, highlighting the need for better support for substance abuse issues in the community.
The suspect also attempted to assault a grandmother and her two granddaughters, though it is unclear if they were injured.
