The search continues for 28-year-old Esther Keiderling, who has been missing since Sunday (June 1) after hiking in Baxter State Park, Maine. Her father, Tim Keiderling, 58, was found dead near the summit of Mount Katahdin on Tuesday afternoon (June 3). The father and daughter, from Ulster Park, New York, were last seen on the Katahdin Tablelands heading toward the summit.
A large-scale search operation is underway, involving 25 game wardens, four K9 teams, and 21 Baxter State Park rangers. The Maine Forest Service and the Maine Army National Guard are providing aerial support with helicopters. The search began after the Keiderlings’ vehicle was found in the day-use parking lot.
Tim’s brother, Joe Keiderling, expressed his grief, stating, “He left us far too soon.” He also thanked the search teams for their efforts in finding Esther. Baxter Park Director Kevin Adam remains hopeful, stating, “We could definitely find her alive.”
Temperatures on Katahdin have been challenging, with lows in the 30s and wind chills around freezing. The search is expected to continue through daylight hours. Officials are asking anyone who was near the summit on Sunday to contact Maine State Police.
