A New York City man is facing federal arson charges for allegedly throwing a lit firework into a Verizon utility van in a fit of road rage. Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York said that 36-year-old Kevindale Nurse was driving a white minibus erratically on January 31, 2024, in Brooklyn when he cut off a Verizon utility truck.
Nurse’s four-year-old son was in the van with him at the time, prosecutors noted.
Surveillance video captured the moment when Nurse drove up alongside the utility truck and threw an explosive device through the driver’s side window. The two workers inside “sustained multiple injuries” in the blast, which caused extensive damage to the truck.
“There is no place in civil society for the spreading of fear through intimidation, violence, and destruction,” stated NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban. “I commend the work of our NYPD investigators, along with our law enforcement partners at the ATF and the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, for their dedication and collaboration in bringing this accused criminal to justice.”
If convicted, Nurse faces up to 40 years in prison.
