SANTA ANA (CNS) – A 24-year-old Santa Ana man made his first appearance in court Thursday on charges of sexually assaulting a woman in the rear of a restaurant.
Juan Alberto Hernandez was charged Sept. 28 with sexual penetration by foreign object and force. He also faces sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury in commission of a sex offense as well as use of a deadly weapon, according to court records.
Hernandez is accused of attacking the woman on Aug. 26, 2021, in the 400 block of North Sycamore Street, according to Santa Ana police Sgt. Maria Lopez. The victim had to be hospitalized for her injuries, Lopez said.
Hernandez, who was being held on $1 million bail, did not enter a plea at his arraignment, which was rescheduled for Oct. 21 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
