A tragic incident unfolded in Las Vegas when a man who called 911 for help during a home invasion was fatally shot by a responding officer. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Brandon Durham, was struggling with a female intruder wielding a knife when he was shot multiple times by Officer Alexander Bookman, a 26-year-old officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Durham had called emergency services to report that people were firing guns and attempting to break into his property. He was home with his 15-year-old daughter, Bella, at the time. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found cars with broken windows outside and heard screams coming from inside the house. Bodycam footage released by the LVMPD shows officers kicking down the door to Durham’s home and entering the property.
Inside, they found Durham wrestling for control of a knife with 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux. According to police, Durham and Boudreaux had a prior relationship, and the break-in was not random. Officer Bookman told the pair to drop the knife before shooting Durham once. Both Durham and Boudreaux fell to the floor before Bookman fired five more shots into Durham’s body. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, Durham was pronounced dead at the scene.
Las Vegas Metro Police Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren defended the officer’s actions, stating that officers often have to make quick decisions based on their perceptions of threats. Officer Bookman has been put on paid administrative leave in line with department policy.
Boudreaux was not hit by gunfire. She was arrested and booked for home invasion with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, and domestic violence.
Durham’s death marks the 13th shooting – the eighth fatal – by Metro Police in 2024.
