A man was taken into custody after attacking firefighters inside their engine in Buena Park on Thursday night. The incident occurred around 6:44 p.m. in the 5200 block of Knott Avenue, according to the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA). The man, who was on a bicycle, stopped in front of the fire engine as it was returning to the station, then opened the door and began attacking the firefighters inside.
OCFA Battalion Chief Chuck Fedak reported that the engine was still moving when the man jumped inside, prompting the driver to park the truck while the crew attempted to restrain him. However, the attacker managed to lock himself inside the vehicle. Police and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrived to assist and successfully removed the man from the truck. He was heard yelling for help before being subdued and placed in handcuffs. A spit hood was put on him, and he was transported to a nearby ambulance.
Three firefighters sustained minor injuries during the attack and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. One firefighter was reportedly bitten, resulting in bleeding, as noted by a witness. The Buena Park police are leading the investigation into the incident.
