Man Accused Of Kidnapping Ex-Girlfriend Over Lottery Ticket

A Tennessee man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and then tried to fight police officers who tried to arrest him.

According to court records viewed by WREG, 43-year-old Dontrell Hanes was upset because his ex-girlfriend never gave him a lottery ticket he claimed to have paid for.

Hanes showed up at her house and kicked down the door after she refused to let him in. He then assaulted the woman, who was not identified and dragged her to his car.

“He initially was just choking me, dragging me out the house,” she told police.

Hanes then drove around with the woman in his car for nearly seven hours. During that time, he demanded $10,000 and threatened her with a handgun.

“I thought I was going to die because he said that was it. He didn’t have anything to live for,” she said. “That’s why I kept saying, ‘why you got to take me with you? I’m not ready to die.'”

Eventually, Hanes allowed the woman to use her phone to call her daughter. That allowed deputies to track her phone, and they found Hanes at a gas station. When officers arrived, he refused to leave his car. Four deputies tried to remove him by force, but he fought back, punching one officer in the face and chest and kicking another in the leg.

Hanes was detained and is facing over 15 charges, including aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, and assault against a first responder. He is being held in jail on a $250,000 bond.
