Malibu Man Pleads Not Guilty in Crash Killing Four Students

Fraser Bohm, a 23-year-old from Malibu, pleaded not guilty to four counts of murder in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday. Bohm is accused of causing a high-speed crash that killed four Pepperdine University seniors on Pacific Coast Highway in October 2023. The crash occurred at a notorious section of the highway known as “Dead Man’s Curve,” where the speed limit is 45 mph. Bohm was allegedly driving over 100 mph when he struck Niamh Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir, and Deslyn Williams, who were declared dead at the scene.

Bohm appeared in court with his new attorney, Alan Jackson, a high-profile defense lawyer who recently secured an acquittal for Karen Read in a Massachusetts murder trial. Jackson, who has also represented actor Kevin Spacey and was part of the team that prosecuted Phil Spector, intends to challenge the prosecution’s case and seek a reduction of Bohm’s $4 million bail.

Following the crash, Bohm claimed he was fleeing a road rage incident, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has not confirmed this account. Bohm’s previous attorney claimed they identified the person who allegedly instigated the incident, but this remains unverified.

In addition to the criminal charges, Bohm faces potential civil lawsuits from the families of the victims. He is due back in court on September 5. Meanwhile, local residents and leaders are advocating for traffic calming measures and speed cameras on the dangerous stretch of road.
