Major Rescue Operation Underway After Tourist Yacht Sinks Off Egypt’s Coast

A tourist yacht named Sea Story capsized in the Red Sea, leaving 17 people, including several foreigners, missing. The boat was carrying 31 tourists and 14 crew members, all Egyptians, when it sent a distress signal at 5:30 a.m. local time, according to the governor of Red Sea province.

Among the tourists on board were five Spanish, four British, four Germans, and two US nationals. The Finnish foreign ministry confirmed that one of its nationals is also among the missing. The British Foreign Office said they were in contact with the authorities, providing support to a number of British nationals and their families following the incident. The Chinese embassy in Egypt confirmed two of its nationals were in good health after being rescued.

The yacht had left port near Marsa Alam on Sunday (November 24) for a five-day diving trip. The survivors were found in the Wadi el-Gemal area, south of Marsa Alam, and are receiving necessary medical care.

The Egyptian Navy warship El Fateh and military aircraft are intensifying their efforts to locate the missing. The cause of the incident is still unknown, but weather forecasters had warned against marine activities due to high waves and wind speeds.

The incident is still under investigation.
