Los Feliz Woman Viciously Attacked by Homeless Man

A violent attack on Donna DeChristopher, 52, by an alleged homeless man in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood has sparked calls for increased safety measures. The incident occurred on June 18 when DeChristopher was walking home on Sunset Drive after running errands. She was approached by a man she recognized from a nearby encampment, who then attacked her.

DeChristopher, who suffered a concussion, a broken nose, and other injuries, described the assailant as a Hispanic male in his 20s. She believes she was struck multiple times, losing consciousness during the assault. A Good Samaritan witnessed the attack and came to her aid.

Following the incident, DeChristopher urged local authorities, including the police department and city leaders, to enhance safety measures in the area, especially given the proximity to Thomas Starr King Middle School. “I know that so much is going on right now, but this should not be falling through the cracks,” DeChristopher told KTLA News. “I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”

Los Angeles Councilmember Nithya Raman, who represents the district, acknowledged the issue, noting a 40% reduction in the number of people living on the streets in the area last year. However, she emphasized that more work is needed.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrested a homeless man shortly after the attack, who is believed to be DeChristopher’s assailant. The suspect, who had a prior warrant for his arrest, is being held without bail. Authorities are working to confirm the connection between the arrest and DeChristopher’s assault, and potential charges are pending.
