Following a fourth day of protests against immigration raids, several businesses in Los Angeles were looted and vandalized overnight. The protests are in response to increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in the area. Cleanup efforts were underway Tuesday morning at the Apple Tower Theatre on West 8th Street and Broadway, where looters broke in and stole multiple iPhones, Apple Watches, laptops, and chargers. “No ICE” was spray-painted on the store’s damaged glass windows, according to KTLA.
The looting extended to multiple jewelry stores, with a large mob seen outside businesses on 6th Street and Broadway. Display boxes were left on the sidewalk, though it remains unclear what was taken. Police arrested two suspects around midnight and detained another near Shoe Palace on West 8th and Main Street, while several others fled the scene.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass attributed the unrest to the Trump administration’s recent escalation of ICE raids. She criticized the raids, stating, “Nothing was happening in this town that called for the raids that took place on Friday.” Mayor Bass questioned the shift in raid targets, noting that they were initially intended to apprehend violent criminals but have since expanded to workplaces like Home Depot.
In response to the unrest, the city declared a tactical alert to restore order. Although crowds dispersed by Tuesday morning, it remains unclear if more protests are planned for later in the day.
