Lights, Camera, Community: How BLEACH Is Changing Independent Film

BLEACH, an independent film production company making waves across Southern California, is gaining attention for more than just what happens on set. Led by COO Jean Evans and CEO Zack Pulliam, BLEACH is turning the indie film model on its head with a focus on community-building and career development.

“We took a look at the film community as a whole and we saw some gaps,” said Evans. “There are so many people here in the film industry, but it lacks consistency.”

Evans says she, Pulliam, and the team at BLEACH hope to change that by creating a hub for filmmakers and hosting monthly community events, such as hiking, karaoke nights, and acting workshops. She says the feedback has been very positive from SoCal filmmakers, who say they want a more meaningful connection in the industry instead of just networking at local bars. But the events are only part of what BLEACH does. BLEACH is also a film production company that collaborates with community members to produce films and projects.

The company offers portfolio support services, shadowing opportunities on active film sets, and even helps fund and distribute select projects that align with its creative vision. There is also a Demo Day for actors looking to create a demo reel of their work and production services available for a fee.

“So you have these people that are creating relationships off set, then we put them together on set and see what happens,” Evans explains. “We really want to break down the red tape for filmmakers.”

In a time when the film and TV industry is struggling, Evans says they hope to carve out a new path for indie filmmakers and creatives who want to tell their story. With upcoming events, collaborative projects, and a growing network of creatives, BLEACH is proving that independent film isn’t just alive—it’s thriving, one friendship at a time.
