Leonardo DiCaprio Donates $1M for LA Fire Relief

Leonardo DiCaprio announced on Wednesday (January 15) that he will donate $1 million to support wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles. The Oscar-winning actor is partnering with Re:wild’s Rapid Response Program to provide aid for both immediate needs and long-term recovery. Initial funds will benefit several organizations, including the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, and Pasadena Humane Society. DiCaprio, who grew up in Southern California, shared the news on Instagram, urging others to contribute as well.

According to Variety, DiCaprio’s donation is part of a larger effort by many celebrities and companies to support the region. Google and YouTube have pledged $15 million, while Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, donated $4 million. Other major contributors include Disney, Netflix, and Amazon.

The Tribune reports that DiCaprio’s donation will help provide resources to first responders, residents, and animal shelters affected by the wildfires. His commitment highlights his ongoing dedication to environmental causes.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that DiCaprio’s organization, Re:wild, is known for connecting communities and leaders to protect and restore natural environments. The actor’s contribution adds to the significant support from Hollywood studios and other organizations working to aid recovery efforts in Southern California.
