Renovations are underway at Terminal 5 of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in preparation for the 2028 Olympics. Starting Tuesday, airlines operating from Terminal 5 are being relocated to facilitate the construction. JetBlue will now operate from Terminal 1, Spirit Airlines will move to Terminal 2 beginning Wednesday, and American Airlines will shift to Terminal 4 starting October 28.
The renovation project aims to enhance the travel experience by adding two gates to Terminal 5 and creating a new post-security connection between Terminals 4 and 5. According to ABC7, the Midfield Satellite Concourse South will help manage airport congestion during the construction phase.
Terminal 5 is set to be completely demolished and rebuilt, with work expected to be completed by 2028. The new terminal will maintain its current 15 gates but will feature improved functionality and upgraded systems. Doug Webster, Chief Airport Operations and Maintenance Officer of LAX, emphasized the goal of minimizing disruption during this transition and ensuring smooth travel for passengers.
The renovation is part of LAX’s $30 billion Capital Improvement Program, which focuses on terminal upgrades and investments. As reported by NBC Los Angeles, the new terminal will offer easier connections to Terminals 4 and 6, eliminating the need for passengers to navigate narrow tunnels.
The project is expected to be a significant improvement for travelers, providing a more comfortable and modern airport experience.
