LAX/Metro Transit Center Station Opens Friday

The Los Angeles-area transit system will celebrate a significant milestone with the opening of the LAX/Metro Transit Center station on Friday. This new station, located just east of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), brings rail service closer to the airport than ever before, offering travelers a car-free option for reaching the airfield.

The station will officially open to the public at 5 p.m., with a ceremony attended by local dignitaries, including Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts. The LAX/Metro Transit Center will connect Metro’s C and K Lines directly to LAX via a free airport shuttle that runs every 10 minutes, providing a convenient link to the airport terminals.

The new station is part of a larger effort to enhance transportation options in the area. It will eventually connect to the under-construction LAX People Mover system, expected to open later this year, which will take travelers directly into the airport terminal area. Until then, the free shuttle buses will bridge the gap.

To celebrate the opening, Metro will offer free rides across its entire system from Friday through Sunday. The station also features a multilevel bicycle hub, a pedestrian plaza, and a 16-bay bus plaza, enhancing its role as a multi-modal transportation hub along the Metro K Line.

The new transit center is designed to provide seamless access to the regional light rail system, improving train travel options and reducing traffic congestion around LAX. According to ABC7, Metro aims to improve connectivity between Redondo Beach and the Metro E (Expo) Line at Crenshaw Boulevard, with the K Line now running seamlessly from Redondo Beach to the E Line, including a stop at the new LAX Station.
