Lawsuit Alleges Fatal Brain Injury on Six Flags Coaster

A Garden Grove family has filed a lawsuit against Six Flags Magic Mountain, claiming their 22-year-old son, Christopher Hawley, suffered a fatal brain injury while riding the X2 roller coaster. The incident occurred on June 23, 2022, when Hawley, a recent graduate of San Diego State University, visited the park with his younger brother, Alex, and their cousin.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges that the ride’s abrupt stop caused a catastrophic brain injury, leading to Hawley’s death the following day. The family accuses Six Flags of negligence, design defects, and failing to warn riders of potential dangers. According to the KTLA report, the X2 coaster features rotating seats and a 215-foot drop, reaching speeds up to 76 mph.

The Hawleys’ attorney, Ari Friedman, highlighted previous incidents linked to the ride, including whiplash and head injuries. The family seeks $10 million in damages, as reported by The Orange County Register. Six Flags has not commented on the pending litigation. A trial date is set for October 13.
