Large Fight Breaks Out in Westlake District Following Copa America Final

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Los Angeles police officers were dispatched to a Westlake district street after a brawl broke out following Colombia’s 1-0 loss to Argentina in the Copa America soccer final, which was played in Miami Gardens, Florida.

There was a “large group of people fighting at 847 S. Union Ave.,” between Alvarado Street and the Harbor (110) Freeway, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Dennis Orris in the Operations Center told City News Service. The call for service was at 7:32 p.m. Sunday.

He received no information about injuries.

A news videographer at the scene said it appeared hundreds of people were involved in the fight and there were some serious injuries.

Orris said he could confirm two people were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries but that officials were not sure whether they were attacked or injured in the crowd.
