The 29th annual Lake Tahoe Summit is taking place today in South Lake Tahoe. Hosted by U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, the event focuses on “Protecting Lake Tahoe: Balancing Sustainable Recreation and Conservation.” The summit also honors the legacy of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who, along with Nevada Senator Harry Reid, initiated the summit in 1997.
The summit, held at Valhalla Tahoe, Feinstein’s favorite venue, brings together federal, state, and local stakeholders, as well as representatives from the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, to continue efforts to protect Lake Tahoe. As noted by Senator Schiff, “I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to host the annual Lake Tahoe Summit this year. Senator Dianne Feinstein was a stalwart protector of Lake Tahoe.”
This year’s keynote speaker is Lake Tahoe resident and Academy Award-nominated actor Jeremy Renner. The event is free, but in-person registration is full. Attendees can still join via livestream. The summit includes a booth fair where participants can learn about ongoing projects and opportunities for involvement in stewardship efforts across the Basin.
The Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program, implemented by over 80 organizations, is one of the most successful large-scale conservation programs in the nation. The summit continues to highlight progress and address challenges facing the Lake Tahoe region, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in preserving this iconic landscape.
