County Department of Public Health issued the order on Tuesday (January 14) due to hazardous air quality from recent wildfires and strong winds. The ban aims to reduce health risks from inhaling wildfire ash and smoke, which can cause significant respiratory problems.
According to L.A. County Public Health, ash is a fine, dangerous dust that can be inhaled deep into the lungs. The prohibition will remain in effect until the County Health Officer determines that conditions have improved enough to safely use these devices.
County Health Officer Muntu Davis emphasized the health risks, stating, “Ash is like a fine, dangerous dust that can be inhaled deep into the lungs and can cause major problems everywhere it lands.” Pasadena Now reports that the ban is part of a broader local health emergency declaration addressing current environmental hazards.
The order affects all of Los Angeles County, and residents are encouraged to follow additional guidance provided by the Department of Public Health to navigate the emergency period safely. The Claremont Hills Wilderness Park is also closed due to Red Flag conditions, as noted by Claremont City News.
