Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman is set to announce new measures to combat retail theft in the county. A news conference is expected at 9:30am today at a Pico-Robertson business that has been targeted 12 times recently, Hochman will reveal coalitions with local law enforcement agencies aimed at investigating and prosecuting retail crimes, as well as protecting businesses.
According to Hochman’s Blueprint for Justice, he plans to prosecute “smash-and-grab” robbers to the fullest extent of the law, contrasting with previous approaches that he claims were less effective. Hochman emphasizes the importance of keeping dangerous criminals off the streets and providing safety to small business owners and their customers.
Hochman also intends to secure state funding to combat organized retail theft, a move he criticizes his predecessor, George Gascon, for not pursuing. Hochman has expressed his commitment to leading the Organized Retail Crime Task Force established by Mayor Karen Bass, ensuring that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office receives necessary resources to address the issue.
