L.A. Protest Charges: Assault on Horses, Attempted Murder

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced charges against over 40 individuals involved in recent immigration protests, including a teenager charged with attempted murder and two adults accused of assaulting law enforcement horses. The protests were sparked by federal immigration raids following President Trump’s directive to detain and deport undocumented immigrants.

The protests resulted in significant unrest, costing the city more than $32 million in damages and police overtime. Among those charged is a 17-year-old accused of attempted murder, assault on a peace officer, and misdemeanor rioting. The teen’s identity remains undisclosed due to their age.

In addition to the teen, Dana Whitson, 66, and Iran Castro, 29, face charges for attacking police horses during the protests. Patrick Munoz, 37, was charged with resisting arrest and assault after allegedly hitting a police officer with a flagpole.

The protests, which were aimed at opposing federal immigration enforcement, have led to numerous arrests and charges, with more expected as the district attorney’s office continues to review evidence and identify suspects. Hochman emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation, stating, “The large-scale protests may have ended for now, but our work has not.”
