L.A. County Sues Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns

Los Angeles County is suing Roblox, alleging the popular online gaming platform failed to adequately protect children from sexually explicit content and online predators.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday, claims Roblox engaged in unfair and deceptive business practices by using weak moderation tools and ineffective age verification systems, allowing minors to be exposed to grooming and exploitation. County officials say more than 40% of Roblox users are under the age of 13, and nearly three-quarters of U.S. children between 9 and 12 use the platform regularly.

“Roblox has a responsibility to keep kids safe,” said L.A. County Board Chair Hilda L. Solis. County Counsel Dawyn R. Harrison called the alleged failures “deeply troubling” and said the county is seeking stronger safeguards.

Roblox, which reports roughly 151 million daily active users worldwide, has not yet responded publicly to the lawsuit.

KFI’s Heather Brooker spoke with gamer and parent Cassie Oates to learn about parents’ thoughts on the gaming platform and their concerns.
