President-elect Donald Trump announced that Kimberly Guilfoyle, the longtime fiancée of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., would serve as his upcoming administration’s U.S. ambassador to Greece, despite reports that she and his son had split up.
“Today, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberly Guilfoyle as the United States Ambassador to Greece,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account Tuesday (December 10) . “For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally. Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad.
“Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation.”
Don Jr. proposed to Guilfoyle, the ex-wife of Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom and a former prosecutor and FOX News host who served as the chair of the fundraising arm of Trump’s campaign, on New Year’s Eve 2020, though the couple kept their engagement private for nearly a year. Insiders, however, told the New York Post that the two had been growing apart for some time.
“Don and Kimberly haven’t been getting along over the past year,” one source said. “They get argumentative at Mar-a-Lago in front of people. Nothing crazy, but you know when a couple is fighting. They bicker in public.”
Don Jr. was also recently spotted with Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson in several photos shared online, leading to speculation of his engagement to Guilfoyle being called off.
