Kidnapping Attempt Triggers Lockdown at L.A. School

An attempted kidnapping near Enadia Way Elementary School in West Hills, led to a brief lockdown on Monday. The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. when a family was walking to the school to pick up their children. According to KTLA, a man wearing a hospital bracelet followed the family from Sherman Way onto Royer Avenue and attempted to kidnap their toddler. Fortunately, the child’s mothers managed to wrestle the child away from the suspect.

Terrified, the family sought refuge in the school’s main office and called 911. The school initiated a lockdown, delaying student dismissal until the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) gave the “all clear.” During the approximately 40-minute lockdown, police took a suspect into custody. The man, described as a heavyset Hispanic male around 5 feet 10 inches tall, was arrested in connection with the incident.

School officials confirmed that faculty followed lockdown procedures and maintained communication with district operations and police throughout the ordeal. In a message to parents, the school’s principal expressed regret for not informing them during the lockdown, citing the safety of the children and staff as the main priority. The LAPD is continuing to investigate the incident, and no further details have been released.
