Karen Read, Accused In Cop Boyfriend’s Murder, Seen Canoodling With Lawyer

Karen Reed, the woman accused of murdering her boyfriend, Boston Police officer John O’Keefe, was seen cuddling up with her married attorney, Alan Jackson, outside a high-end steakhouse amid jury deliberations last week, days before the case was ruled as a mistrial, the New York Post reported on Wednesday (July 3).

An iPhone live photo appears to show Jackson wrapping his arms around a smiling Reed, 44, with one arm around her midsection and the other around her chest outside Smith & Wollensky in downtown Boston on June 27.

“I was eating dinner with my wife and I happened to look out and see them outside, and it looked wrong and inappropriate so I just grabbed the closest phone and took a picture,” said the photographer, who shared the photo on the condition of anonymity, via the Post. “It was just her attorney kinda I don’t know what you would call it. It looked inappropriate for an attorney-client type situation.”

The photo was re-shared by the X account for Masshole Media, which is run by Kate Peter, a journalist who has been vocal in her belief that Read is guilty of killing O’Keefe. The police officer was found dead in a snowbank in Canton, Massachusetts in January 2022.

Prosecutors accused Read of fatally striking O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV and leaving him to die in the frigid winter temperature after a night of heavy drinking. Jackson, a former Los Angeles prosecutor who had previously represented several notable clients including disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey has been married to Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Lisa Kassabian since 2011.

Read’s case ended in a mistrial on Monday (July 2) after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision following more than 26 hours of deliberation. A status update in the case is scheduled for July 22, though it’s unclear whether Norfolk County prosecutors will seek to retry Read.
