Judge Dismisses Indictments Against James Comey, Letitia James

A federal judge has dismissed the criminal cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The decision comes after Comey pleaded not guilty in October to charges of false statements and obstruction of a congressional proceeding, related to his 2020 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Critics have labeled these prosecutions as part of President Trump’s alleged campaign of retribution against political adversaries.

Comey’s lawyers argued that fundamental errors in the grand jury process rendered the indictment legally flawed. They claimed that the full grand jury never reviewed the final indictment, only an earlier version that included a rejected charge. Interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, appointed by President Donald Trump, pursued the indictment despite objections from career prosecutors.

Comey’s legal team described the prosecution as vindictive, asserting that President Trump used the justice system to target his political opponents. They argued that Trump’s social media posts demonstrated a desire to punish Comey, and the case was driven by personal spite rather than legal merit.
