John Tinniswood, The World’s Oldest Man Dies At 112

John Tinniswood recognized as the world’s oldest living man and the oldest surviving male World War II veteran, passed away at the age of 112 in his care home in Merseyside, England, surrounded by “music and love,” according to his family. Born on August 26, 1912, the same year the Titanic sank, Tinniswood lived through significant historical events and milestones, including all eight of Liverpool FC’s FA Cup wins, and 17 of their 19 league title wins, the soccer team he supported throughout his life.

Tinniswood, a former accountant, was verified as the world’s oldest living man in April when he was 111, following the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez from Venezuela. When asked about the secret to his long life, Tinniswood told Guinness World Records earlier this year, “Just luck. You either live long or you live short, and you can’t do much about it.”

During the war, Tinniswood served in the Royal Army Pay Corps, responsible for administering finances, organizing food supplies, and locating stranded soldiers. He later worked as an accountant for Shell and BP before retiring in 1972. Tinniswood and his wife, Blodwen, were married for 44 years before she passed away in 1986. He is survived by his daughter Susan, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
