Jill Biden Suggests Husband Would Have Defeated Trump

In a recent interview, former First Lady Jill Biden expressed her belief that her husband, then-President Joe Biden, would have defeated President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. During a Tuesday (June 2) appearance on MS Now’s “Morning Joe,” Jill Biden stated, “I believe he would have beat Donald Trump in that election.” Her comments come after Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race in July 2024 following a challenging debate against Trump and amid concerns about his physical and mental acuity.

Jill Biden shared her concerns about her husband’s health during the debate, revealing she feared he was having a stroke. “I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since,” she told CBS News, as reported by the BBC. Despite her praise for his debate performance, Democratic leaders and donors expressed unease, leading to Biden’s eventual withdrawal and endorsement of then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

When asked about her husband’s ability to serve a full term if reelected, Jill Biden admitted uncertainty. “I don’t know the answer to that,” she said, referencing Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis and its impact on his health. The Hill reports that Jill Biden also addressed claims that her husband was shielded from public scrutiny, stating, “If we were hiding him behind the scenes, why did we ask the Trump team for the debate?”

The 2024 election saw Trump defeating Harris, making him the first president in over 120 years to lose the White House and then regain it. Jill Biden’s comments highlight ongoing discussions about age and health in political leadership, as both Biden and Trump faced scrutiny over their abilities to serve effectively due to their ages. HuffPost notes that these concerns continue to resonate with voters and political analysts alike.
