In a recent interview with CBS News, Jill Biden revealed her fear that her husband, former President Joe Biden, was having a stroke during his pivotal 2024 presidential debate against Donald Trump. The debate, held on June 27, 2024, saw Biden stumbling and stammering through several questions, which led to widespread calls for him to exit the race. Jill Biden stated, “I was frightened, because I had never, ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never.”
During the debate, Biden appeared dazed and confused, repeatedly freezing on camera. Despite Jill Biden’s support, the performance led to multiple Democrats urging him to withdraw from the race. He eventually exited on July 21, 2024, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
Biden’s health had been a concern since he announced his candidacy for a second term in April 2023, at the age of 81. Jill Biden was one of his staunchest defenders, publicly supporting his ability to finish the job. However, she was reportedly pressuring aides to allow more rest for the president and took an active role in managing his schedule.
The former first lady’s comments come ahead of the release of her memoir, “View from the East Wing,” which details her experiences in the White House. The memoir is set to be released on June 2, 2026.
