Jets Player In Critical Condition After NYC Shooting

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after a shooting in New York City early Sunday (November 16) morning, police and team officials confirmed to the New York Post.

The incident took place on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan just after 2:00 p.m., according to the New York Police Department, which didn’t initially identify the victim, however, sources told to the New York Post that it was Boyd, 29, before the Jets shared a statement confirming the report.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” a representative said.

Boyd was reportedly shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant following a dispute that escalated when the gunmen fired two shots, law enforcement sources confirmed to the New York Post. The suspect fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV and witnesses were described as being uncooperative with police officers at the scene.

A second vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach, was also reported to have fled the scene after shots were fired. Photos from the scene also showed a luxury armored Rhino GX SUV reported to be worth up to $300,000 parked outside the restaurant after officers arrived.

Boyd was reported to have been in and out of consciousness prior to being rushed to the hospital, where he was said to be in critical, but stable condition. No arrests have been made in relation to the shooting and an investigation is ongoing.

Boyd signed a one-year contract with the Jets this past offseason and was placed on injured reserve on August 18. The former University of Texas standout was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh-round of the 2019 NFL Draft and spent his first four NFL seasons with the franchise before stints with the Arizona Cardinals (2023) and Houston Texans (2023-2024).
