Irvine police have arrested Jacob Daniel Rodriguez, a 45-year-old Santa Ana resident, who was nicknamed “Postal Malone” due to his resemblance to music artist Post Malone. Rodriguez is suspected of stealing packages from a mailroom in an Irvine apartment complex. The arrest took place on October 16, following a theft incident on September 21, where Rodriguez allegedly took multiple packages from the Spectrum Center Drive complex.
The Irvine Police Department humorously referenced Post Malone’s song titles in an Instagram post, stating, “Things are ‘Better Now’ that Jacob Daniel Rodriguez has been arrested for burglary.” Rodriguez, who has distinctive tattoos on the right side of his face and hand, was captured on surveillance video during the theft. The police credited tips from the public for aiding in his arrest, though they did not provide further details on the nature of these tips.
Rodriguez was booked into the Orange County Jail and faces charges of theft. The value of the stolen items is still under investigation. As reported by East Bay Times, the arrest highlights the growing concern of package theft, a crime that has been on the rise with the increase in online shopping.
The Irvine Police Department has emphasized the importance of community vigilance and has been proactive in using social media to engage the public in solving such crimes. They continue to advise residents to secure their deliveries and report any suspicious activities. For those with information related to package thefts, the department encourages contacting Detective Ward at mward@cityofirvine.org.
