Intruder Kills Man in Valley Village Apartment, LAPD Seeks Suspect

Los Angeles police are searching for a suspect after an intruder broke into a Valley Village apartment and killed 53-year-old Menashe Hidra. Officers discovered Hidra’s body on Saturday during a welfare check at the Ashton Sherman Village Apartments on Riverside Drive, according to the LAPD. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male between 30 and 40 years old, reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with Hidra before fleeing the scene.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect attempting to break into apartments with a screwdriver. The LAPD has released a video of the suspect and is asking for the public’s help in identifying him. The suspect is believed to have entered an empty apartment and climbed to Hidra’s balcony. Bloodstains between the balconies and on a door handle suggest the path taken during the escape.

Residents of the complex have expressed concerns about security, noting that transients have been seen living on the roof and in stairwells. Many have complained to management, but little action has been taken to improve security. The building recently hired security following the incident, but residents remain uneasy.

Police urge anyone with information to contact the LAPD’s Valley Bureau at 818-374-9550 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
