International Manhunt Launched For Man Who Threw Hot Coffee On Baby

A manhunt for a suspect accused of throwing scalding hot coffee on a nine-month-old baby has expanded globally as authorities in Australia have been unable to locate the perpetrator.

The unprovoked attack happened on August 27, when the unidentified man approached a family having a picnic at Hanlon Park in Queensland. He pulled out a flask, threw hot coffee on the infant, and fled the park.

The young boy suffered extensive burns and was rushed to the hospital. He has since been released, but his parents said he has a long road to recovery, according to the BBC.

Officials have not released the suspect’s identity but said he is a 33-year-old foreign national. Deputy Inspector Paul Dalton said that authorities do know his name and what country he fled to but are currently withholding that information to prevent jeopardizing their investigation. He said that the suspect has knowledge of “police methodologies” and has been “conducting counter-surveillance activities” to evade detection.
