Illegal Immigrant, US Marshal Shot During ICE Stop

A U.S. Marshal and an illegal immigrant were shot during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Los Angeles on Tuesday (October 21). The incident occurred when federal officers attempted to arrest Carlitos Ricardo Parias, a 44-year-old Mexican national, during a targeted traffic stop in South Los Angeles. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Parias, who is also known as TikTok streamer Richard LA, rammed his car into law enforcement vehicles in an attempt to evade arrest. In response, ICE agents fired “defensive shots,” striking Parias in the elbow and inadvertently hitting a deputy marshal in the hand with a ricocheted bullet.

Both the injured marshal and Parias were transported to a hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Parias has been charged with assault on a federal officer, as stated by Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

The shooting took place near Santee Education Complex, a high school, raising concerns among local residents and officials. Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price described Parias as a well-known community member and citizen journalist, who has been recognized for his work documenting immigration enforcement activities.

Federal officials, including Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, defended the agents’ actions, citing the potential danger posed by Parias’ vehicle.

The FBI has launched an investigation into the shooting.
