Hundreds of Student Visas Revoked, Including at UCLA

The Trump administration has revoked over 300 international student visas across the United States, affecting numerous universities, including UCLA. As of Sunday, the federal government has not provided a clear explanation for these actions, leaving many students and universities in a state of uncertainty.

At UCLA, six current students and six former students in the Optional Practical Training program have had their visas revoked. UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk addressed the situation in a campus-wide email, acknowledging the anxiety and uncertainty these actions have caused within the Bruin community. Frenk emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting its international students and ensuring they can continue their education and work at UCLA.

According to a report by the Daily Bruin, the revocations may be linked to students’ involvement in political activism, particularly pro-Palestinian protests. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the visa revocations target foreign-born students participating in such activities.

The University of California system is actively monitoring the situation and has pledged to support affected students. In a statement, the UC administration reiterated its commitment to following all applicable state and federal laws while supporting the rights of its community members.

As the situation develops, UCLA and other universities are working to provide legal assistance and resources to those impacted. The revocations have sparked concern among faculty and student groups, who are calling for more aggressive responses from university leaders to protect the rights of international students.
