House Explosion in Chino Hills Injures Eight

A house explosion in Chino Hills on Sunday, left at least eight people injured and caused significant damage to the surrounding area. The explosion occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the 4200 block of Sierra Vista Drive. According to the Chino Valley Fire District, the blast caused one home to collapse and damaged several nearby homes. Sixteen people were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

Video footage from the scene showed debris scattered across Sierra Vista Drive and a gas line outside the home burning for hours. The Chino Valley Fire District reported that the gas leak was contained by 10:45 p.m.

ABC7 reported that the explosion felt like an earthquake, and neighbors described seeing victims, including children, running from the burning home. Witnesses recounted hearing screams for help and seeing victims with burnt hair and injuries.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated that the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Four victims were taken to the hospital by emergency services, while others were transported by neighbors.

Firefighters evacuated 16 homes in the area to ensure safety from further explosions, allowing residents to return by 11 p.m. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the explosion.
