CYPRESS (CNS) – A 2-year-old gelding suffered a fatal injury at Los Alamitos Race Course this weekend, state horse racing officials reported Sunday.
“Gentle Peace was injured while galloping out after the 5th race at Los Alamitos Saturday night, requiring euthanasia,” Mike Marten, spokesman for the California Horse Racing Board, told City News Service.
It was just the horse’s second race, following a second-place finish at Los Alamitos on July 20. He was owned by J. Francisco Diaz and trained by Lindolfo Diaz, according to the industry website Equibase. His jockey was Jesus Ayala.
Gentle Peace is the ninth horse to die from a racing or training injury at Los Alamitos this year, according to the CHRB.
The Cypress track had 13 horses die from racing or training injuries in 2023.
