The Long Beach Police Department is investigating a disturbing incident of animal abuse captured on video early Monday. The footage shows a man lifting a dog by its leash, swinging it over his shoulder, and slamming it into the ground in the 200 block of East 12th Street around 5:30 a.m. The man then kicks the dog in the head and drags it away, as reported by ABC7.
The suspect, seen wearing orange pants, a red flannel shirt, and a black backpack, was also carrying a skateboard. Local resident Adalhi Montes captured the incident on his security camera and expressed his shock, stating, “I honestly do hope they find that person.”
The video has gone viral, shared widely on social media platforms like Instagram and Nextdoor, prompting public outrage and a call for justice. KTLA reports that PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the man’s arrest and the dog’s recovery.
The Long Beach Police Department has confirmed that officers have responded to the area and filed an animal cruelty report. They are working alongside Long Beach Animal Care Services to ensure the animal’s welfare. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact non-emergency dispatch at 562-435-6711.
In a statement, PETA’s Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien emphasized the urgency of finding the man, saying, “This dog will be in danger as long as he or she remains in this abuser’s clutches.” The community continues to rally in support of finding the perpetrator and ensuring justice for the abused animal.
