A Los Angeles County Superior Court sentenced Hollywood producer David Pearce to 146 years in prison for the murders of Christy Giles, 24, and Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, 26, along with sexually assaulting seven other women. Pearce, 43, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Giles and Cabrales-Arzola, who overdosed on fentanyl and gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) at his Beverly Hills apartment in November 2021.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office reported that Pearce met the women at a party in East Los Angeles before they returned to his apartment. Within 35 minutes, Cabrales-Arzola attempted to call a rideshare but neither woman left. Pearce later dropped them at hospitals; Giles was already deceased, and Cabrales-Arzola died 11 days later.
Pearce was also found guilty of three counts of forcible rape, two counts of sexual penetration by force, and one count each of rape of an unconscious person and sodomy by force. These charges involved crimes against seven women between 2007 and 2020. During the trial, jurors heard from five additional women who alleged sexual assault by Pearce.
Pearce’s co-defendant, Brandt Osborn, is awaiting a potential retrial after a mistrial was declared on charges of being an accessory after the fact. Pearce denied the charges, claiming he tried to save the women. However, the court found him guilty based on DNA evidence and testimonies from multiple victims.
The case, prosecuted by the Sex Crimes Division and investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, highlights the devastating impact of fentanyl. District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized the importance of holding those accountable who exploit others through drug-facilitated crimes.
